The “Blaze Mentoring” program and the “21st Century Community Learning Center” program will launch the “Go Hard or Live Hard” Summer Anti-Drop Out campaign.

The campaign is a response to the rising local Drop Out rates that in Richland County Districts 1, is estimated to be 58.44% (according to the last year figures were released). Realizing that many students will make the decision not to return to school over the summer break, the campaign will utilize Television Ads, Radio Spots, E-Blast, Social Media, along with heavy Grass Roots Marketing efforts to deliver the message that “You either work hard in school or live a hard life”.  Says Blaze Mentoring co-founder, Akintunde Warnock, “Young people don’t realize how much harder they make their lives when they decide to Drop Out. They’re usually thinking just for the moment. So, it’s up to us as adults to paint the full picture”. Outlook for students who Drop Out are dismal. National statistics show that when a student makes the decision to leave high school before graduating, they are immediately more likely to;

•    Be unemployed
•    Become addicted to illegal drugs
•    Earn less than $20,000 per year
•    Spend time in prison

And if you’re an African American Male “High School Drop Out”, you are 85% more likely to spend an extended period of your life in prison.

The campaign will communicate these facts in a “No Holds Barred”  fashion through creative partnerships with some Local Media outlets, Local Businesses, Local Agencies, and all current forms of mass multi-media - including popular Social Networking sites Myspace and Facebook. The 21st Century programs offers a wealth of enrichment services that can assist students who make the quality decision to remain in school.
The campaign will continue through summer into the 2010-11 school year. Says Akintunde, “I’d like to see this campaign continue for years to come in the Spirit of the “Dare” program”.
