What are you going to do about it? |
|
Have you ever observed a sports fan
criticizing a pro athlete about how they could do better at playing a
particular sport? Ironically, most of the time, this person is usually
out of shape, incapable of playing a “Pick Up” basketball or football
game, and has barely played in a neighborhood sports league - much less
a professional sport. But this person can spew hours worth of opinions,
comments, and incites that he genuinely believes would change the game.
These people are commonly known as “Arm Chair Quarterbacks”. I used to
be that person that was more comfortable sitting on the sidelines
complaining about what was going on, as opposed to getting out there
and doing something about it. The two biggest areas I would complain
about were young people (specifically young men) and the results of the
lack of fathers in our families, and the entertainment industry with
the negative role that it has played in the moral break down of our
society. I would share my opinions with anyone who would listen. Many
times, my wife and I would be out at a social function, and these
topics would come up, and I’d be like, “Oh, don’t get me started” and I was up on my “Soap Box”. And for years, I kept hearing God say the same thing, “What are you going to do about it?” So, finally I said to God, “I’m your man. I’ll do something about it. Just put me in position.” Then,
he did just that, placing me in position to do something about it.
First, came the realization that I was to denounce my secular comedy
career, and become a Christian Comedian. Not too long after that, came
the confirmation that my wife and I were to launch a male and female
mentoring program. For me to become a Christian Comedian was one thing,
as I was already a comedian, but mentoring was a much bigger stretch
for us. Particularly me, as I had absolutely no desire to go into
education. Next, God plunged me back into the entertainment industry -
behind the camera, in front of the camera, on Christian television, on
secular television, in radio, on the internet… It seemed that God
continued to put me in position to make a difference in the areas where
most I wanted to see change.
SIDE BAR: What is still amazing to me is
how God has given me more Media opportunities after becoming a
Christian Comedian. It’s a testament to how God will prosper you once
you are sold out for him, and willing to do things his way. BACK TO THE
TOPIC – At each step of the way, God showed both my wife and I, that
she was an intricate part of my assignment to make a difference, and
she had her own personal assignment that was separate and unique to
mine. First, as my Manager and Agent as a Christian Comedian (and
Praise God, she keeps me working like no one has ever did before).
Then, she became my Producing partner on our DVD, Internet, and
television projects. As of late, she has been my co-laborer in our male
and female mentoring programs. All of this in addition to her already
huge task as the mother of 5 children. Now, don’t get me wrong, all of
this does come with a price for the both of us. It has been a huge (and
I do mean huge) learning curve. Continuous preparation along with
continuous spiritual and natural growth has been mandatory.
Spiritually, learning to hear from God - and naturally, learning to
hire and fire employees. This has not been an easy process. But nor is
it easy to just walk on a professional football team, and drop 80 yard
bombs in the end zone. This requires years of preparation prior to your
arrival, and lots of hard work once you get there. I could go on with
this forever. However, inevitably what I have learned is this, the
thing that makes you the most angry, could be the thing that you are
put here to change. So, what is your God given assignment in the earth?
What makes you the most angry? Ponder that point as you consider this,
as believers, we are quick to criticize the world (those who willfully
sin), and get very upset about the results of that sin in the earth.
And most of the time, were not willing to lift one finger to do
anything about it. And if we are willing to do something about it, it’s
usually only within the walls of the church. And even then, we often do
it with half effort and no commitment to excellence. My Pastor said
just the other day, “You have no right to complain about what you are not willing to do anything about.” So, as you ponder what makes you angry, also ponder what are you willing to do about it?
