Have you ever observed a sports fan
criticizing a pro athlete about how they could do better at playing a
particular sport? Ironically, most of the time, this person is usually
out of shape, incapable of playing a “Pick Up” basketball or football
game, and has barely played in a neighborhood sports league - much less
a professional sport. But this person can spew hours worth of opinions,
comments, and incites that he genuinely believes would change the game.
These people are commonly known as “Arm Chair Quarterbacks”. I used to
be that person that was more comfortable sitting on the sidelines
complaining about what was going on, as opposed to getting out there
and doing something about it. The two biggest areas I would complain
about were young people (specifically young men) and the results of the
lack of fathers in our families, and the entertainment industry with
the negative role that it has played in the moral break down of our
society. I would share my opinions with anyone who would listen. Many
times, my wife and I would be out at a social function, and these
topics would come up, and I’d be like, “Oh, don’t get me started” and I was up on my “Soap Box”. And for years, I kept hearing God say the same thing, “What are you going to do about it?” So, finally I said to God, “I’m your man. I’ll do something about it. Just put me in position.” Then,
he did just that, placing me in position to do something about it.
First, came the realization that I was to denounce my secular comedy
career, and become a Christian Comedian. Not too long after that, came
the confirmation that my wife and I were to launch a male and female
mentoring program. For me to become a Christian Comedian was one thing,
as I was already a comedian, but mentoring was a much bigger stretch
for us. Particularly me, as I had absolutely no desire to go into
education. Next, God plunged me back into the entertainment industry -
behind the camera, in front of the camera, on Christian television, on
secular television, in radio, on the internet… It seemed that God
continued to put me in position to make a difference in the areas where
most I wanted to see change.
