I'M READING THIS BOOK CALLED... PDF Print E-mail

The book “Attitude of A Servant” by Dr. Michael Landsman provides eye opening insight into one of the most important aspects of my daily Christian walk. My revelations resulted in an attitude adjustment to reposition the things of the Lord as top priority in my daily life. Not that it hadn’t been a top priority. After all, serving God on some level daily is what I do personally and professionally. However, there had born a disconnect through busyness - in my personal ministry, business, and home life that caused me to falter in some duties that I had in my newest ministry post at my home church. This cannot be. After all, it is through this Ministry and my relationship with my Pastors (Doctors Herbert and Marcia Bailey) that caused revelation of God’s Word and what he says in His Word that lead to many things in my life being changed for the better. So, there must be an adjustment, and for this to take place, it must begin with a shift in attitude.

Attitude is defined as a mental position with regard to fact or state. The most important factor of the attitude of a believer is realizing that whatever you do is done unto the Lord, and not to man. Many times, as Believers serving in Ministry, we take issue with our leaders because of a task asked to carry out; or the way it was asked to be carried out; or who asked that it be carried out. But the truth of the matter is, whatever we are asked to do is being asked by the Lord, and it should be done as though God took the form of the Ministry Leader and asked you to “Move those chairs”, “Drive a family home after service”, or whatever the task may be. Nor matter how menial we deem it to be.

So, no matter how busy I may become, I must maintain my focus on being a willing and available servant to God through my Pastors and my home Church, Right Direction Christian Center. Now, there’s balance to everything. One thing for sure, I work a lot on weekends. And they are some occasions when I miss service because of travel. And though I will never forsake the gathering of the Saints, I realize that where I once served faithfully in a couple of separate ministries, and had even begun Ministry Leadership training, my service in my church has now shifted to more financial support. And this is a needed and real service (Honoring God through our giving). Being willing to give above and beyond tithe and offering is important to me.

Additionally, I have shifted the Ministry that I’d volunteered on from “The Television Ministry” to our “Bridge Ministry”. This particular ministry serves at the bridge between Children’s Ministry and RAYG (Radically Anointed Youth Group). I heard clearly from God to make the switch, as I’ve grown to have a heart for mentoring children. Ironically, this works better for my schedule (just like God). Additionally, two of my children are currently in this Ministry and this allows me to be there for them during a pivotal period of their lives (Again, just like God).

We add great value to the Kingdom when we serve, and we receive great blessings when we serve. And the true Attitude of A Servant should be that I am serving unto the Lord, and not to please man. I recommend this book for any believer. This is my second time reading it, and it has reinforced and confirmed a lot that I already knew, as well as given new revelation about just how important it is for believers to serve God.
